Post 166: Nightlight (9/4/09)

Nightlight (8/9/09 c, 9/4/09 w -badly)

You tell me, you tell me you’re not afraid of anything
You say there are no monsters under your bed
But there is no use taking chances

You tell me that you want to give love a try
What are you doing the rest of your life?
What are you doing tonight?

You keep a night light
Plugged in at all times
I try to read your mind
But I can’t comprehend
I can’t comprehend who you really are
It seems you are open to chances
But I know there is something, something you don’t want me to see
You put on a brave face
But I can see, I can see you’re as scared as me
You don’t want me to see, see that you need – you need a
Nightlight

You said you would do almost anything
Without a second thought
But I can see through your façade.
I know there are some things, some things that you won’t do

But I’m not going to prove a point
Because it seems that you could be
You could be something special to me

You keep a night light
Plugged in at all times
I try to read your mind
But I can’t comprehend
I can’t comprehend who you really are
It seems you are open to chances
But I know there is something, something you don’t want me to see
You put on a brave face
But I can see, I can see you’re as scared as me
You don’t want me to see, see that you need – you need a
Nightlight

You talk a big game
But it all fades away; it fades away when you’re in my arms
When you can, you can let go
And just be yourself
When you don’t have to try to prove your worth
To a world that isn’t what you thought it would be

You don’t have to be who you think I want you to

You keep a night light
Plugged in at all times
I try to read your mind
But I can’t comprehend
I can’t comprehend who you really are
It seems you are open to chances
But I know there is something, something you don’t want me to see
You put on a brave face
But I can see, I can see you’re as scared as me
You don’t want me to see, see that you need – you need a
Nightlight
