Post 533: Anticipation (3/28/10)

Anticipation (11/15/09 c, 3/28/10 w)

Winter nights seem to last forever
Especially Christmas Eve
I’ve waited all year for this night
Bathed in the light of a small fire
And the sparkling of Christmas tree lights

It is finally here, finally tonight
I know I can’t sleep
I toss and turn
Waiting to see in the morning light
What Santa has brought for me
I try to lose myself in my past dreams
Try to feel the way I did as a kid
But the anticipation won’t let me sleep

They tell me I’m a grown up
But you’re only as old as you feel
And today I feel the way I do
When I was 8 and the world lay in front of my
With endless possibility

It is finally here, finally tonight
I know I can’t sleep
I toss and turn
Waiting to see in the morning light
What Santa has brought for me
I try to lose myself in my past dreams
Try to feel the way I did as a kid
But the anticipation won’t let me sleep

There is nothing wrong with seeing the world
Seeing the world through a child’s eyes
Everyone should give it a try
Give it a try for at least one night
At least try, if only vicariously

Hope you don’t, hope you don’t forget
Forget the way you felt back then
Maybe you can feel, feel that way again

It is finally here, finally tonight
I know I can’t sleep
I toss and turn
Waiting to see in the morning light
What Santa has brought for me
I try to lose myself in my past dreams
Try to feel the way I did as a kid
But the anticipation won’t let me sleep
