Post 486: Memory Lane (4/23/10)

Memory Lane (3/7/10 c, 4/23/10 w)

Remember in school when they told you
Told you that life was good
And no good deed would go unrewarded
Standing here proof that the dream
The dream I was led to believe was thwarted

Memory lane, memory lane
Take me, take me back again
Let me do it again, but this time do it right
What would happen to my current life
Memory lane

Sometimes I wish I could go back again
Go back again to where it all began and do it
Do it again knowing what I know now
Can it happen somehow

Going back in time, only in my mind
Revisiting the past, that has escaped me
College and high school once again
But somehow different, how much could I change

If I took the chances, the chances I was too scared to take before
Or maybe even saved, saved my money more

Memory lane, memory lane
Take me, take me back again
Let me do it again, but this time do it right
What would happen to my current life
Memory lane

Going back to where I was young, I was young again
Outside the school that saw me through my younger day
Sitting on the swings, where in the summer I would sometimes sing
Where life, life seemed more fair – at least to me
Possibility long sense faded still would exist, exist for me
If only, only

Memory lane, memory lane
Take me, take me back again
Let me do it again, but this time do it right
What would happen to my current life
Memory lane

It is so much easier, easier playing remember when
Life was much better, better back then
The girls I knew hadn’t yet changed their names
And moved on with their lives (they hadn’t grow up)
Though I know I still didn’t have, didn’t have a chance
Maybe I could have found, found that first romance
That first romance in younger days

Given me the confidence that I’ve never known
Putting me in a place, a place that today I don’t know
Please help me, help me make it so

Memory lane, memory lane
Take me, take me back again
Let me do it again, but this time do it right
What would happen to my current life
Memory lane
