Post 468: Pop Princess (4/17/10)

Pop Princess (3/5/10 c, 4/17/10 w)

The whole world is throwing roses at your feet
Whenever you go on stage
And your normal life seems to be
Coming to an abrupt end
Do you ever think, think about how you lived back then

Pop princess
Alone in the spotlight
Adoration and adulation from everyone you meet
You’ve got the world at your feet
But you know it won’t stay that way for long
Trying to remember who you are through the barrage of lies
Crying yourself to sleep lonely at night
Pop princess

Everyone will do anything for you
This uneasy feeling of others using you for their own gain
You can’t ignore in your brain
You’re trying, trying not to lose
Lose all the things that make you who you are
But it is so hard, when you’re being molded – molded
For the press to see and you’re feeling not like a person
But a commodity

Pop princess
Alone in the spotlight
Adoration and adulation from everyone you meet
You’ve got the world at your feet
But you know it won’t stay that way for long
Trying to remember who you are through the barrage of lies
Crying yourself to sleep lonely at night
Pop princess

Do you believe the lies, the lies people tell
To get on your side, to get more time in your spotlight
So many demands on you, when the music used to be all
All that mattered to you
But now it seems you’re a brand
That doesn’t sell, sell itself

Afraid of losing everything
By tomorrow it could all slip away
It could all be gone, then where
Where would you be

Pop princess
Alone in the spotlight
Adoration and adulation from everyone you meet
You’ve got the world at your feet
But you know it won’t stay that way for long
Trying to remember who you are through the barrage of lies
Crying yourself to sleep lonely at night
Pop princess
